Product Safety Recall for 9523NB, 9523NBK, 9526NB

In the interest of end-user safety, Makita is undertaking a Voluntary Safety Recall of Angle Grinder models 9523NB/9523NBK, 9526NB for replacement of the spindle to which the grinding disc is attached. The recall applies to tools produced from June 2002 and that are within the following serial number ranges:
9523NB/9523NBK - serial numbers 1209788K to 1440404K
9526NB - serial numbers 41446K to 59985K

Condition:
It has come to our notice that, under certain circumstances, when using the tool or fitting a wheel and tightening the "flange nut", the spindle onto which the nut is screwed, can break. Should this breakage occur while the tool is being used and the wheel is revolving, it is possible that a serious injury could occur.

Rectification:
The affected models require replacement of the spindle. Replacement will be carried out by Makita's National Service Agent network or by Makita itself.

Action Required:
Owners should cease using these models immediately and contact Makita Australia on 1300 361 690 between 8:00am and 6:00pm weekdays (E.S.T.) to arrange for replacement of the spindle by the nearest Makita Service Agent at no charge.
